The Ministry of Finance in association with the VAT Department offer a one-time opportunity to claim the VAT on your Wedding/Civil Union expenses.

APPLYING OFFLINE (Download Form)

1. APPLYING OFFLINE 1/3: APPLICATION FORM
Download and fill in the for the Wedding/Civil Union Grant::

Instructions to fill in the form:
On Page 1 of the form you will be asked to fill in the following details:
1. Names of spouses,
2. Respective ID Card Numbers,
3. Residence (matrimonial),
4. Date when the wedding/union took place,
5. The responsible spouse to whom the details of payment shall be addressed to,
6. Details of the address where the payment via a cheque from the Treasury will be sent.

On Page 2 the following should be entered:
7. The Full Amount Paid in Ä in the respective category,
8. The respective Vendorís VAT No,
9. Full name of applicants,
10. Respective signatures,
11. Telephone number,
12. Date when the application form is signed.

Spejjez Ohra: Number 15 under Details of Expenses is left open. This can include items such as confetti cannons, etc. which are not listed under numbers 1-14. All such additional expenses (spejjez ohra) should be written on a separate blank paper with all the relevant details, and it is very important that any such additional papers you attach with the form are signed by both spouses.

2. APPLYING OFFLINE 2/3: ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTS
You will also need to attach these additional documents:
- all relevant ORIGINAL fiscal receipts (of course vat exempt receipts do not count)
- a marriage certificate by the Public Registry
- a copy of both ID cards (front and back)

3. APPLYING OFFLINE 3/3: SUBMISSION and TIMEFRAME
- Submit to VAT department: Value Added Tax Department, 16, Centre Point Building, Triq ta' Paris, B'Kara, BKR 4633
- You application needs to reach the VAT Department within 6 months of the wedding/civil union date, either by post or delivering in person.


APPLYING ONLINE (Online Form)

1. APPLYING ONLINE 1/3: APPLICATION
If you have a government E-ID, you can fill in the form online:

Application for Grant Paid on Expenses Connected with a Wedding Function.
Pay particular attention to the important notice and remove pop-up blockers.

2. APPLYING ONLINE 2/3: ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTS
You will also need to submit these additional documents:
- after filling in the online form, print the acknowledgement and sign it
- all relevant ORIGINAL fiscal receipts (of course vat exempt receipts do not count)
- a copy of both ID cards (front and back) may be required (we advice to include it).

3. APPLYING ONLINE 3/3: SUBMISSION and TIMEFRAME
- Submit to VAT department: Value Added Tax Department, 16, Centre Point Building, Triq ta' Paris, B'Kara, BKR 4633
- You application needs to reach the VAT Department within 15 days of the date of acknowledgement, either by post or delivering in person.


TYPICAL TIMELINE

1. Draft Stage
You fill in application.

2. Application being Vetted
Application is assessed for completeness by VAT Department within 20 days.

3. Under Approval
Application being considered by Product Development section of VAT Department within 4 months.

4. Application Approved
Application Approved by VAT Department, and payment issued usually reaching you approximately.

Note: Timeline does not include time required to verify documents where necessary.


FAQs and IMPORTANT ADVICE:
What are the timing limits?
Offline method: Application must reach VAT Department within 6 months of wedding/civil union.
Online method: Application must reach VAT Department within 15 days of date of acknowledgement.

Do I need to keep a copy of what I send?
This might sound obvious but... we strongly advise to keep copies of everything you send.

Do I need receipts for everything?
No, since you might do some of them yourselves e.g. souvenirs, beautician.

How much VAT is paid back?
13.04% of the VAT you pay is refunded, for a global maximum threshold of Eur1747.
